Thiru Aadi Pooram is the sacred birth star of Sri Andal (Godha Devi/Bhoomi Devi). On this auspicious day, a grand chariot festival is celebrated at Srivilliputhur, the birthplace of Sri Andal.
One of the unique traditions associated with this festival is "Pachai Parathal" (பச்சை பரத்தல்), also known as "Pachai Paarthal" (பச்சை பார்த்தல்).
- Pachai means green, symbolizing prosperity, abundance, and auspiciousness.
- Parathal means to spread, while Paarthal means to behold.
As part of this beautiful tradition, devotees lovingly offer a variety of green vegetables and fruits before Sri Andal for Her divine blessings. The vegetables and fruits are spread before the Goddess as a symbol of abundance and prosperity. After receiving Her blessings, devotees take them home, prepare them as prasadam, and share them with their families, praying for prosperity, good health, and happiness.
We are delighted to celebrate this sacred tradition at HTBN on Friday, August 14. By divine coincidence, we will also be performing Kumkum Archana for Sri Mahalakshmi and Sri Parvathi on the same day.
We warmly invite everyone to participate by bringing one or more green vegetables or fruits as your offering.
